Girl
Whatever
happened to that little girl
who lived down the street?
the one who wore a pretty pink dress
and pigtails in her hair
the one who had tea parties
with her dollies
the one who chased butterflies
and picked daisies on hot summer afternoons
where is that girl now?
her bright world has been shattered
the pretty pink dress is now black
her hair hangs in her face
so that her eyes are hidden
the tea parties are nothing more
than faded memories
the wings of the butterflies
have been crushed
and the daisies picked
on past summer afternoons
are dead
no one knows
where that little girl went
i think she's gone forever
Distant Angels
I hear them calling my name
from within the dark cage of my sadness
Those angels with shining halos
and beautiful wings
They bid me to dance in the light with them
just for a little while
They say I look so cold
there in the shadows
They say my heart has been frozen
by the ice that surrounds my world
But where were they
when I needed them most
They don't know
that I am trapped here
And if I could break through this darkness
would I join them
Or would I remain here
in the only place I have ever known
In this cold ocean
where I will inevitably drown
And sink into the depths of oblivion
Yes
That is where I would remain
and so I ignore their sweet voices
because I know I will never find
the warmth of their light
My halo is tarnished
my wings have been broken
And my home is in this prison
I have created for myself
